LGBT Elder Fund donation made

Last year as many of you may remember as part of boi Di's title as Washington State Ms Leather 2010 she held a few fundraisers with the intent of the monies raised going to a LBGT elder fund.  On October 7th a check for $2596 was presented to SAGE with Senior Services of King County.  We thank our community for donating their hard earned money to LBGT seniors in need.

SAGE affiliates are building a movement to reduce isolation, improve financial security and enhance the quality of life for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults. Through SAGENet, a national network of affiliates, local leaders draw on the wisdom of their peers to implement programs and services that address the most urgent issues facing LGBT elders—from unemployment, to housing, to LGBT-affirming healthcare and more. They are also creating advocacy initiatives where LGBT elders advocate on their own behalf—at the local, state and federal levels.
PS.  I am late in delivering this message due to internal (exciting) upcoming changes at Seattle Announcements.

See Auntie Mame to support Three Dollar Bill Cinema on December 15th

You would have to be new to the GayZette to not know that I love love love Three Dollar Bill Cinema.  They feature the best of the classics and select amazing new releases.  Thanks to the hardworking folks at Three Dollar Bill Cinema.  I have not ever seen the upcoming Auntie Mame which is their annual fundraising screening film.  Ms T.
Celebrate the season with Three Dollar Bill Cinema and AUNTIE MAME. The beloved 1958 film starring the incomparable Rosalind Russell returns for one night of festive revelry, a 'homo for the holidays' tradition.

Always armed with a colorful dress and an acerbic quip, the flamboyant, vibrant Mame Dennis (Russell) is an unconventional socialite from the roaring 20's. When her young orphan nephew comes to live in her madcap party pad, Mame takes him under wing for an adventure in living life to its fullest.
Gaiety, classic film, and sharp humor...in the words of Auntie Mame: "What could be more wholesome and natural?"

10-10-10 Perfect 10 Date Auction Funds to benefit LBT Health at YWCA

I would like to invite, encourage and twist your lovely arms behind your backs to have you attend the upcoming second Perfect 10 Date Auction benefiting LBT Health of the YWCA next Sunday (read on).  As many of you know, Ingrid works smartly and tirelessly to fill a gap originally left by the closing of Verbena to bring much needed mammograms, breast exams and pap tests to women in need.  This event will help fund a scarcity of grant money that all non-profits are dealing with.  Please come out and support her efforts and support women in our community that need these services.

The event is an auction where you can bid on 'date' packages and enjoy entertainment presented by the  featured auctionee's.  Let me explain as I know this has been a little confusing to people.  You bid on the items and win them, not the person, sorry :~).

So, for example the lovely Fuschia Foxx, will preform and Fuchsia's date package will be a VIP package to Girl4Girl Seattle and dinner for two at Sur (to be confirmed). You can bid on her 'date' package but you do not get to have a date with her...sorry folks!  She just was darling enough to garner the package and will preform for us too!  Still following me?

A just confirmed item to be bid on is an Atlantis Events Mexico Cruise for two!  Now, that is worth either bidding on or coming to see the excitement of who will win it!

Yard Sale FundRaiser that is easy to fit in between the Health Fair and the Dyke March

For those of you that know Ruth, you will know that she is headed to South Dakota to dance in a Lakota Ceremony.  What folks may or may not know is what an incredible honor it is to be invited to dance in this sacred ceremony on land that has been danced on for many years by others.  I admit I have an extremely limited understanding of what all this entails but feel blessed to have a teacher such as Ruth to share information with me so I can gain a better understanding of that which I have had little exposure.  Thank you - Ruth!

Before or after you pop into the Rainbow Health Fair at Gilda's Place (ah hem), stop by Ruth's and purchase a little something to help her on her way.  Head up to the hill early for the Dyke March (check your traffic routes as I hear there is hell traffic in spots) and say high and part with a little cash - lol.

The 6th Annual "An Incredible Feast" on August 22, 2010

Save the Date:

The 6th Annual "An Incredible Feast" on August 22, 2010!  Conceived by Tamara Murphy of Brasa Restaurant, this event is one of Seattle's premier food events and showcases an astounding variety of local flavors, all prepared using fresh farm ingredients.

Held outdoors in a farmers market setting, guests can sample over 30 gourmet dishes, enjoy excellent local (Salmon Safe certified!) wines and beers, and meet the chefs and farmers behind the food.  The event also features country-fair-style games with fabulous prizes, live music and a dessert auction.  All proceeds from the event support the Good Farmer Fund (emergency relief for local farmers in need) and the NFMA's educational programing.

This year's Feast will again be held at the University District Market site under one enormous event tent, complete with chandeliers to light up the farmer and chef tables.  The U-District market is the oldest and largest 'farmer-only' market in Washington state, celebrating 17 years of operation in 2010.  This market is 'home' to thousands of shoppers each year, including many of Seattle's best-known chefs and foodies.

This fundraiser was conceived by Chef Tamara Murphy of Brasa Restaurant and is organized by Chef Tamara and the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance.  Tamara’s inspiration for this event comes from her personal experience of cooking with local farm and sea products.  She says: “Good dishes can only come from good food…Chefs get all the glory for their creations, but it is vitally important to acknowledge the local farmers who are the backbone of these culinary successes.  Citywide farmers markets have made us rethink what tastes good and the value of local, seasonal, sustainably-grown food."

With farmland continuing to disappear across the nation (due to development and urban sprawl), it is more vital than ever to support and protect our local farmers, farmland, and the markets where small family farms earn the full dollar value of their products.  Our health, our environment, our local economies cannot thrive without healthy, sustainable systems of food and agriculture.
