Seattle Men's Chorus Holiday Schedule

Santa Baby

For thirty years, SMC has been warming cockles with superbly sung traditional carols spiced up with something new and zany that makes you wonder what those boys won't think of next. This year is no exception; Santa’s bag will be full of unique numbers such as a tribute to that holiday staple: the holiday TV special. And they have a surprise up their sleeve for all you “slum dogs” out there. Of course, the wacky will be balanced with the sublime as the Chorus’ more traditional fare will be accompanied by Benaroya’s Watjen Concert Organ, a combination that creates a sound as heavenly as the season.

Seattle Men’s Chorus' Santa Baby runs November 28 - December 20 at Benaroya Hall.

  • 11/28 (8pm) & 11/29 (2pm) at Benaroya Hall with Betty Buckley
  • 12/6, 12/13, 12/14, 12/20 at Benaroya Hall (7:30 pm)
  • 12/3/09 at Tacoma's Pantages Theatre (8 pm)
  • 12/5/09 at Everett's Civic Auditorium (8 pm)
Buy Tickets varying in price from $18 - $50 depending on day and time.

**I will be searching and post if they do a FREE concert as is their habit.  It is often for children, so kidnap a child for the day and get in free.

It is hard to believe that the Men's Chorus has been around for 30 years!  They keep finding new wonderful ways to entertain us and musical guests that at first glance one might wonder how do they fit in?  Earlier their performance with Debbie Reynolds was a sight to behold as it was a perfect match and who would have thought so?  She was so campy and a natural with all those guys.  Hmmm...maybe it makes sense after all?  Now, the first two performances will be with the lovely Betty Buckley.

Now, Betty I remember well as she played a gym teacher in Carrie...and what self respecting gay gal in the 70's could resist a fantasy about Betty Buckley?  I also watched her more recently in a prison flick but that is not a nice Christmas story.  She was the replacement mom in Eight is Enough after Diana Hyland died after taping just a few episodes in the later 70's .  Now Diana was John Travolta's love interest and it was quite the heartbreaker for John as it was reported she died in his arms.

I digress...I doubt Betty is going to reenact her prison role or make any of the dykes in the audience do push ups, damn but she has a long standing career as a vocalist on Broadway and is bringing in tow her accomplished jazz pianist Kenny Werner.  The chorus never disappoints and is sure to be as fabulous, as creative and still remarkably fresh from any of the prior years.
