Bite of Seattle - Free - July 16th - July 18th Seattle Center

There have been some changes to the Bite of Seattle this year (read below my text).  It is free and I seem to remember it charging an admittance cover in some years past.  Now, I could be wrong on that and would be happy to be so!  I am thrilled, yes THRILLED that businesses are getting IT, that perhaps if they lower their covers, that people will come and spend the $$ they have on real stuff (instead of over inflated cover prices).  They are also offering less food for less money...read on.   

For full details, please check out their website as they have way too many details to post here.  I have picked just a few to whet your appetite.  They do have celeb chefs and my eye would be on Robin Leventhal...um um good!  They have wine tasting, food and beverages with a focus on consumer trends highlighting local, sustainable, organic or free-range fare.  'The Hope Heart Right Bite extends that experience by including a healthier menu option from each participating restaurant. This supports a healthy lifestyle while showcasing great flavors from local restaurants.'  Plus much much more, check it out!   Ms T.

'Sounds Outside' Saturdays at Cal Anderson Park 1pm July 17

Cal Anderson Park has become a place for events ranging from Bat n Rouge, a fun and zany fundraiser of softball featuring Drag Queens and Dykes playing softball for the Capitol Hill Alano Club to Three Dollar Bill Cinema Outdoor Movies.  Add to the roster 'Sounds Outside' tomorrow July 17th at 1pm brought to us by members of the Monktail collective and we have another reason to be outside enjoying each other and what Cal Anderson Park has to offer - community gather together.

The Jazz Composers Ensemble and the Zubatto Syndicate, two bands well known for being especially creative will play. Wayne Horvitz’s Sonny Clark tribute band is on the schedule and there is a New York band called Father Figures that will be new to our area.  Come out and enjoy!  Ms T.

Laughing Ladies Cafe - 2nd Annual Women's Music Festival July 15 - 18

I invite you to check out this fabulous Music Festival of Women that is happening at the wonderful Laughing Ladies Cafe.  This is their 2nd Music Festival over 4 days with an impressive line up starting today Thursday through Sunday July 18th.  The schedule is also on each day of the Seattle Announcements Calendar and the pricing is $10 per day or $15 for full access to the weeks events!  I plan on stopping in and checking out this great cafe and incredible line up of performers. 

Each days show begins at 6pm.  Beer and Wine will be available.  Pricing is $10 per day or $15 for full access to the weeks events!  This should be a great weekend of shows.

A quick note and one weekend cancellation

UW School of Medicine Research Opportunity

As is often the case I come across information to pass onto the community.  As with all things, make sure that you feel comfortable with each project that you agree to participate in.  It is a good thing that we have the opportunity to each have a voice and to be able to choose when to use it.  I am also happy to field any information about your experiences to pass onto others.   Ms T.


WHAT ARE WE DOING?  Developing ways to include the experiences of older adults and people of color within the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender community in research on end-of-life care.
● WHO SHOULD RESPOND?
LGBT adults
LGBT people of color
LGBT adults age 50 and older
You do not need to have a critical care experience in order to help.

● WHAT WILL YOU DO? Participate in a focus group to talk about the best ways to reach out to older adults and people of color within the LGBT community. The focus group will take 1-2 hours.

● WHO ARE WE? Researchers at the UW School of Medicine End-of-Life Care Research Program. We are interested in improving the care provided to LGBT patients and their partners.

Can you assist with an item between now and September?

Please take a moment to see if you happen to have an item or can provide an item between now and September that can assist MCC take part in this one day event to help the homeless in our area.  Certainly with the economy the way it is, many people are finding themselves in situations that they would not have in other economic times.  It takes a small amount to assist.  Ms T.


Community Resource Exchange (CRE), a one-day mega-event serving more than 1,100 people experiencing homelessness. On September 24, United Way will be hosting its fifth Community Resource Exchange at QWEST Field, where King County's most vulnerable can receive a variety of much-needed services from haircuts and massages to dental care and employment training.  We're determined to make sure every client that visits us receives a care package full of the much needed supplies.
Specifically, we are trying to collect 1,500 of the following items:
·      Adult Underwear (new)
·      Adult Socks (new)
·      Hygiene Packs (Ziploc bags with deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, razor)
·      Backpacks
·      Adult Winter coats
If you can help, begin gathering these items in the next months and we will collect them at Emerald City MCC in September.   Questions? CRE@uwkc.org.

BENT: Bent Arts, a non-profit organization, is the only queer writing institute in the nation. The mission of Bent is to promote and encourage written and spoken word among LGBTIQ people and in our communities. The concept and work of Bent began August 2000, in the living room of Tara Hardy, Seattle-based writer, performer, and Slam Champ. Since, Bent has grown to a full institute, having served over 200 students, offering a variety of weekly classes and local and regional performances.
