Rainbow Health Fair is Saturday, June 26th at Gilda's Place

This is how to find us on Saturday for the The 12th Annual Rainbow Health Fair that will have fun Complimentary Health Services, Healthy Living Information and Resources to the LBT Community utilizing Peer Providers.  You will know many of the peeps and can use this as an opportunity for a tune-up!  Please stop by, say hello to long time friends, make some new ones and check out what we have to offer.

Please join us for complimentary health services and a variety of healthy living information provided by Peer Providers to the LBT community on Saturday, June 26, 2010, 10am - 3pm at Gilda’s Club, 1400 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122.  Appointments can be made at 206-436-8666 for mammograms or email lbthealth@ywcaworks.org although drop-ins are welcome.  The YWCA blog has updates on upcoming services, resources and current information http://ywcaworks.typepad.com/lbthealth/.
The most popular returning services include acupuncture, massage, energy healing and laughter therapy.  If you are interested in heart health, HIV information, diabetes, osteoporosis screening, smoking cessation, talking with a naturopath or receiving a mammogram, we will have peer providers available for these services.  We are offering no cost mammograms and pap tests for un- and underinsured income eligible people over 40.  Ingrid Berkhout, Women’s Health Outreach Program Manager of the YWCA, says 'we find that when we bring the mammography coach directly to women in need, we have more success and are better able to make an impact.'

In 2008, Ingrid Berkhout knew there was a huge gap in services to the LBT community when Verbena, the last in a long line of health care services and outreach for lesbians and transgender people closed its doors.  In a short period of time the Lesbian Resource Center, Black Pride and the LGBT Center had all closed, with funding being cited as the main cause.  Ingrid has continued to work tirelessly to ensure that programs continue by using volunteers to maximize the efficient use of funding.

Ingrid understands there is more to healthy living than just what is traditionally considered medicine and has expanded the peer offerings to include laughter therapy, massage, music, and personal training, among other activities that just make one feel good.  She believes if we take care of our body, then our body has a better chance of taking care of us.  There are many ways to keep ourselves healthy.  The Rainbow Health Fair creates an opportunity to experience services you may not have tried before, to enhance your overall health and well-being.  After all, laughter is the best medicine.
