Bite of Seattle - Free - July 16th - July 18th Seattle Center

There have been some changes to the Bite of Seattle this year (read below my text).  It is free and I seem to remember it charging an admittance cover in some years past.  Now, I could be wrong on that and would be happy to be so!  I am thrilled, yes THRILLED that businesses are getting IT, that perhaps if they lower their covers, that people will come and spend the $$ they have on real stuff (instead of over inflated cover prices).  They are also offering less food for less money...read on.

For full details, please check out their website as they have way too many details to post here.  I have picked just a few to whet your appetite.  They do have celeb chefs and my eye would be on Robin Leventhal...um um good!  They have wine tasting, food and beverages with a focus on consumer trends highlighting local, sustainable, organic or free-range fare.  'The Hope Heart Right Bite extends that experience by including a healthier menu option from each participating restaurant. This supports a healthy lifestyle while showcasing great flavors from local restaurants.'  Plus much much more, check it out!   Ms T.

Everett Gender Support Closing and Philosophy of Seattle Announcements added

While I like to deliver good news, I also have the distinction of delivering news that is on the bummer end of things as well. Please see the below letter that was posted on Ingersol's website that I have posted in it's entirety on the closing of the Everett Open Support Meeting.  Ms T.

Friends -

After more than eight years and 444 consecutive weeks,  the Everett Open Support meeting of the Washington Gender Alliance will be held for the final time on August 25, 2010.  The meetings will be held as usual and without interruption through that date.  The Bellingham Open Support meetings are unaffected by this change,  and will continue weekly as they have for more than 14 years.

Unfortunately,  we just don't have the resources necessary to maintain the meeting.  However,  everyone is welcome to join us in Bellingham each Tuesday  7:30 - 9 PM at St. James Presbyterian Church 910 14th Street (at Fillmore Street) in the Fairhaven district. For those who aren't able to travel to Bellingham,  but still need an in person support meeting, Ingersoll Gender Center offers one in Seattle on Wednesday nights. And we will continue to answer questions and offer support via e-mail at info@washingtongenderalliance.com.

We're sorry if this presents any difficulty for anyone,  but we simply have no choice but to take this action.  Many people have come through the doors of the Everett meeting since 2002,  and hopefully they benefitted from participating in the Alliance.  The work will continue,  just further north where it all began in 1996.

Please share this information with anyone you know in the gender community.  It is our sincere hope that everyone gets the word by August 25th so no one comes looking for the meeting after that date.  The reason that our support meetings have been held each and every week is so no one would ever find a closed door.  It would be a shame if after eight years someone first came looking for the meeting after it was closed down.

We've always been proud of being the only gender organization in Washington that has held two weekly support meetings in two different cities 60 miles apart.  While we will no longer have that distinction, our Bellingham meeting has surpassed 735 consecutive weekly meetings without interruption, and counting.

    Rory Gould,
    President

WALLINGFORD WALKS - ARTISTS AND WRITERS on Saturday 17th

This event may interest some of you.  It is not a queer event as in, it is not organized by queers but by some fairly liberal type folks.  I normally do not clarify events in this manner as I figure many of the events my discerning readers can tell by the description of the event or type of event.  You can also send me an email if you have a question about an event.  I will be happy to answer it.

With this said, keeping our love of arts alive happens in many ways.

WALLINGFORD WALKS - ARTISTS AND WRITERS

What her fans don’t realize yet is that the murders in the movies are all too real! Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Marilyn Monroe, the ultimate Hollywood blonde, stars with the legendary Jayne Russell in this madcap musical comedy. Featuring an iconic – and often imitated – performance of 'Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.'  Directed by Howard Hawks, 1953, 91 min.

The movies for the following Fridays are:

July 30: The Legend of Billie Jean
On the run from the cops for a crime she didn’t commit, backwoods beauty Billie Jean Davy (SUPERGIRL Helen Slater) and her friends caught in the crossfire use the media to make a stand for themselves. As the hype surrounding them escalates out of control, they become champions of justice and unlikely heroes. Fair is fair!  Directed by Matthew Robbins, 1985, 96 min.

Aug 13: Desperately Seeking Susan
Pop icon Madonna shows real blonde ambition in this romantic comedy, featuring her first major motion picture performance as an actress. A case of amnesia and mistaken identity leads a bored housewife (Rosanna Arquette) on a wild adventure through the bohemian nightlife of New York, with shady characters in hot pursuit of stolen jewels in her possession.  Directed by Susan Seidelman, 1985, 104 min.

Aug 27: Candleshoe
Academy Award winner Jodie Foster plays a street-smart tomboy recruited by a gang of thieves to impersonate a missing girl and search for hidden treasure in a crumbling castle half a world away. A vintage Disney classic that’s fun for the whole family!  Directed by Norman Tokar, 1977, 101 min.
