Gen Silent Film Showing - Save the Date November 22nd Monday

Gen Silent will be showing on Monday, November 22, 2010, 2-4 PM, at
NorthShore Senior Center
10201 E. Riverside Drive
Bothell, WA,
in the Multi-Purpose Room
Cost: FREE
Movie time: 63 minutes; discussion following

Gen Silent is the new LGBT documentary from award-winning director and documentary filmmaker Stu Maddox. Gen Silent reveals how lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elders, who fought the first battles for equality now face so much fear about discrimination that they are hiding their lives again. Thousands are dying earlier than their straight counterparts because they are afraid to ask for help. But there is a growing number of individuals trying to build awareness and wake up the long-term and health care industries to their plight.

What's in a name? Ask Portia DeGeneres.

According to Diva Magazine which is Europe's hot lesbian mag since 1994 lovely Portia De Rossi who is Ellen's wife will be taking Ellen's last name.  Of course, I am sure this information was all over the US news via TMZ but it was much more interesting to read it in a glossy UK edition devoted to hot lesbian women. So here it is...without pics, darn.

Having filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court to change her name, the actress formerly known as Portia De Rossi is now Portia DeGeneres.

The request for a change of name was granted Thursday in LA County Superior Court, report TMZ.

The Australian actress, who found fame on the TV series Ally McBeal, was born Amanda Lee Rogers, and changed her name to Portia de Rossi whilst still in her teens.

She married Ellen Degeneres in 2008.

In other news, according to Advocate.com, the star is writing an emotional tell-all autobiography that will describe the 37-year-old’s past struggles with anorexia, her sexuality and her marriage.

Laughter Therapy via Yoga

For those of you that were able to attend the LBT Rainbow Health Fair we enjoyed a wonderful 'laughter circle'.  Even in the short time we practiced laughing, many of us felt we benefited from practicing laughing and experiencing the joy that laughter brings in any form.  Laughing just makes one feel good!

The Phinney Neighborhood Center offers a laughter yoga class on the 2nd Tuesday's taught by Teresa Verde based on the model that laughter has health benefits.  The Laughter Yoga class provides:

an explanation of the tremendous health benefits, how laughter and humor are highly effective coping mechanisms, the role of laughter in the workplace and even how smiling is beneficial; followed by a joyous laughter session consisting of gentle stretching, yoga-type deep breathing and playful laughter exercises.

Like all Yoga's, Laughter Yoga practices a combination of gentle stretching, yoga-type breathing, chanting and only differs by including laughter exercises. Yoga is a body/mind/spirit connection that leaves you feeling better after the class.  You need to bring to class a willingness to laugh for no reason and water. Check out the article on One Thousand Laughs in The New Yorker August 30th issue.

LBT Mobile Screening at Wildrose on December 11th

LBT Mobile Screening at Wildrose December 11th
At our May mobile screening we saw 15 women and we could have seen more!  For those of you thinking of coming to a mobile screening, take a look a this comment from one of the women that was served at our May 3rd screening.
I had never been to anything like a mobile health screening before and did not know what to expect.  I was pleasantly surprised as it was much less crowded than my doctors office and there was no wait!  I was one of the last appointments on Monday and can't remember the last time my doctor's office provided me with my test results so fast (only 3 days to my mail box)!  Plus, they provided resource information if I had any questions.  I certainly will use a mobile screening again as I was treated so well and the staff was very friendly.
Join us at the Wild Rose on Saturday December 11th
