Official call out  for ANY woman who wrenches, chops, customizes or does any kind of work on her own ride to pose for the 1st JUGRZ WMC 2010 calendar.  Fundraiser on Seattle Announcements Calendar!

Corky is  looking to start the photo shoot in October 2009 and have the calendar ready for December. Please submit a photo with you & your bike ideally doing something like changing your oil, welding on a frame, be creative and also include a bio that shares the work you have done to jugrzwmc@gmail.com for your submission.

This is a JUGRZ WMC fundraiser to help raise funds for our conference to be held May 15th 2010.

The words "health care" and "comedy" aren't usually found in the same sentence, but in Academy Award winning filmmaker Michael Moore's new movie 'SiCKO,' (running Time: 123 minutes) they go together hand in (rubber) glove.

Opening with profiles of several ordinary Americans whose lives have been disrupted, shattered, and—in some cases—ended by health care catastrophe, the film makes clear that the crisis doesn't only affect the 47 million uninsured citizens—millions of others who dutifully pay their premiums often get strangled by bureaucratic red tapeas well.

After detailing just how the system got into such a mess (the short answer: profits and Nixon), we are whisked around the world, visiting countries including Canada, Great Britain and France, where all citizens receive free medical benefits. Finally, Moore gathers a group of 9/11 heroes – rescue workers now suffering from debilitating illnesses who have been denied medical attention in the US. He takes them to a most unexpected place, and in addition to finally receiving care, they also engage in some unexpected diplomacy.

While Moore's 'SiCKO' follows the trailblazing path of previous hit films, the Oscar-winning BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE and all-time box-office documentary champ FAHRENHEIT 9/11, it is also something very different for Michael Moore. 'SiCKO' is a straight-from-the-heart portrait of the crazy and sometimes cruel U.S. health care system, told from the vantage of everyday people faced with extraordinary and bizarre challenges in their quest for basic health coverage. 

In the tradition of Mark Twain or Will Rogers, 'SiCKO' uses humor to tell these compelling stories, leading the audience to conclude that an alternative system is the only possible answer.

The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later TONIGHT

I was particularly moved by the brutal death of Matthew Shepard as I know was the case of the queer and some in straight community as well.  I recently saw his mother Judy on Ellen's talk show and she has written a book about Matthew.  I will post more on that later and the bracelets that can be obtained in his honor. The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later Oct. 12, 2009, 7:30 p.m. Seattle Repertory Theatre, Free (seating is first come, first-served, doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

Seattle Repertory Theatre presents The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later written by Tectonic Theatre Project members Moisés Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris, and Steven Belber. This free staged reading is an 80-minute epilogue to The Laramie Project, the groundbreaking play about the murder of 21-year old gay man Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.

The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later focuses on the lasting effects of Shepard’s murder on the small town. The epilogue was written after the members of the Tectonic Theater Project returned to Laramie to find out what had happened since their initial visit. The reading will be held concurrently in over 100 theatres across the globe including all 50 states, Spain, Hong Kong and Australia.

Producing Artistic Director Jerry Manning will direct the Seattle presentation, which will feature actors Marianne Owen, Suzanne Bouchard, Sarah Rudinoff, Gretchen Krich, Troy Fischnaller. This event is free and open to the general public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Tweeters and bloggers who want to post during the show are encouraged to sit in the balcony.
Recommended for ages 14 and above for mature themes.

The Northwest Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian & Gay Survivors of Abuse is pleased to announce Q&A our 8th Annual National Institute, building strategies for advocacy and organizing in response to abuse in Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Gay communities.

Q&A is a one-of-a-kind training and consultation project available to D.V. advocates and others who work with bisexual, trans, lesbian and gay survivors of abuse.

This year’s Institute is February 25-27, 2010 at the Downtown Seattle Center comfort Suites, Seattle, Washington.

The early bird registration is now open and closes November 30th, 2009. Register now, space is limited and will fill up fast!
